Knauf AMF ceiling solutions make the grade at Repton School

The prestigious Repton School in Abu Dhabi has extended its world-class facilities with a new, purpose-built campus on Al Reem Island. Catering for up to 1800 pupils, Fry Campus includes a six-lane, 25-metre swimming pool, three sports halls and a multi-purpose space for creative arts. Echoing the school’s premier status, premium materials have been used throughout, including a range of ceiling solutions from Knauf AMF which have helped to achieve the school’s acoustic and aesthetic requirements.

TOPIQ® Sonic element circular frameless, monolithic rafts create an eye-catching ceiling design at the entrance to the school’s library. Overlapping at varying heights, the 21 raft units create a weightless elegant structure thanks to the simple, discreet suspension wires.

TOPIQ® Sonic element rafts aren’t only about aesthetics. They offer excellent sound absorption and humidity resistance too, thanks to their technologically-advanced mineral wool core. Manufactured in a wide range of shapes and colours, TOPIQ® Sonic element rafts provide architects and designers with even greater design choice as well as superior performance.

Whilst visually striking, many of the materials used within Fry Campus, such as glass and concrete, create a variety of acoustic challenges. In response, 1,272m2 of THERMATEX® Aquatec ceilings were fitted in the circulation areas to provide the correct level of sound absorption and attenuation to ensure unwanted noise does not impact on learning in the adjoining classrooms.

Repton is a contemporary school building designed to incorporate many light, open areas. The surface of THERMATEX® Aquatec is bright white with high light reflectance of over 88%. This combination helps to reflect light coming in from outside back into the room, reducing the need for artificial light and creating spaces with lots of natural light and low glare.

Senior Interior Designer at Brewer Smith Brewer Group (BSBG), Eric Mallari specified Knauf AMF for the project and was impressed by the company’s innovative approach and excellent service levels. He comments: “Knauf AMF have a creative ceiling solution for every acoustic challenge. Their advice and recommendations were invaluable, and we are very happy, as is the client, with how the ceilings have helped us bring the interior to life.”

Mais Design were responsible for fitting the ceilings and rafts and were equally impressed. Director Mr Khaldon adds: “We were delighted to be working with Knauf AMF on this project. Their ceiling products are extremely easy to handle and cut, making installation much quicker and simpler for us. The finished result looks superb too!”
